Level 4 in ISL and (optional) an introduction to Sign Language Interpreting
The level 4 certificate in Irish Sign Language and introduction to interpreting caters for the learning needs of those who already have competence in Irish Sign Language at Level 3 and are interested in an introduction to interpreting. It is designed for those who work with, or want to- work with, Deaf people (e.g. social workers, teachers of the Deaf, communicators, voluntary workers, workers within Deaf organisations, school, etc. ), those who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in Irish Sign Language and those who are interested in a career in interpreting. Successful completion of this qualification can be used as evidence of the language skills needed, in order to be able to operate independently and at an advanced level in the target language.
This qualification used the National Occupational Standards at Level 4 and also the Trainee Sign Language Interpreter standards. The assessment criteria for units ISL 421 and ISL 422 are taken from the UK Occupational Language Standards at Level 4 ('extended' language use). The qualification is at Level 4 on the Qualification & Credit Framework (RQF), Extended Level on the Language Ladder, and Level B"/C1 on the Common European Framework. Application of these standards has been applied to the units with the qualification.
The qualification consists of the following units;
Unit 420 - Extended sign language linguistics - mandatory
Unit 421 - Understand extended ISL in a range of work and social situations - mandatory
Unit 422 - Use extended ISL in a range of work and social situations - mandatory
Unit ISL 423 - Introduction to Interpreting (RQF Unit Number: T/506/3924) - optional
Credit value- mandatory units: 30 with optional introduction to interpreting Credit value: 6,
Credit value - combined total 36
Scheduled: 60 weeks Saturdays biweekly 30-09-17
Course Fee €700 per year
Each Exam has a fee amount to be paid at the time of booking the exam.
